Building a Resilient Future: The Power of People, Process, and Technology
Building a Resilient Future: The Power of People, Process, and Technology While attending KubeCon in Salt Lake City, I heard an incredible story from a former colleague now working for a major tech company. They shared insights into the Kubernetes infrastructure supporting their cloud storage service—a system spanning multiple clouds. For just one of these clouds, their monthly spend was estimated at over $20 million, supporting an infrastructure with hundreds of thousands of compute nodes.

Decompression: How Scuba Diving Teaches Us to Beat Burnout
Recently, I’ve been feeling tired, really tired. The kind of tiredness that isn’t fixed by a good night’s sleep. On a drive home the other day, my mind was buzzing with thoughts of work until it landed on something different – my new hobby, scuba diving.
Not long ago, my eldest son and I completed our PADI Open Water scuba certification. In our training, we learned about ‘safety stops’ - a planned 3-minute pause during the ascent from a dive.

Terraform Cloud/Enterprise State Management - When things go wrong
Managing infrastructure with Terraform can be a breeze when everything goes according to plan. However, we all know that the dreaded “something” can and will go wrong, especially when working with complex infrastructures. In these cases, it’s essential to have a plan in place for managing Terraform state in a break glass scenario. This is particularly important when your Terraform state is managed by Terraform Cloud or Enterprise.
In this blog post, we will discuss how to manage Terraform state when something goes wrong during a Kubernetes cluster deployment using Terraform and a Helm chart.

Reducing Cloud Costs with Scaling Groups and Spot Instances
Hey there, fellow tech enthusiasts!
I previously posted an article outlining whether migrating from cloud back to on-prem was worth the cost. My main opinion is that the decision to undo migration work should be measured carefully and evaluate if cloud is the problem, or if an inefficient lift and shift is the problem. In this article, I share a couple of relatively “simple” ideas on how migrations to cloud can help an organization save cost and realize better efficiencies in their workloads.

The rise of public cloud has been nothing short of revolutionary for businesses of all sizes. The ease of access to computing resources, scalability, and cost savings have made it a popular choice for many organizations. However, as the cloud landscape continues to evolve, some companies are considering moving back to on-premises computing. Before making this decision, it’s important to weigh the pros and cons and consider whether it’s worth the cost of decommissioning your cloud infrastructure.
